Vin Gallery is honored to present Sơn – Giấy – Đất / Lacquer – Paper – Earth, the first solo exhibition in HCMC by Ly Truc Son. This exhibition marks a return, not only of an artist to his audience but of materials to their most primal essence. Following his celebrated solo exhibition Earth in Hanoi, this body of work gathers decades of quiet devotion - lacquer, paper, and, a series formed from the very earth itself. The works on paper, created in the 1990s, the lacquer pieces from 2014, and the Earth series, created in the 2020s till now, form a layered dialogue across time. Lacquer – Paper – Earth is both a meditation and a testament - an exploration of how materials evolve through the artist’s hands and perspectives. It embodies Lý Trúc Sơn’s relentless pursuit of essence and his endeavor to revitalize a materiality that speaks to an authentic Vietnamese aesthetic. Transformed by time and touch, these works stand as witnesses to a lifelong inquiry into the origins of form, memory, and the soul of Vietnamese art.
